What is a "Prime Braai"?
When roads are built there are many different activities forming part of the construction and the last activity is that of putting the “tar” or the black surface down. This in itself comprises of more than one activity but over many decades it was a firm belief and indeed a tradition in the roads industry that when the first “black stuff” (mostly in the form of a “prime” bitumen product) was sprayed onto the road, then a brand new shovel (or spade) had to be bought and wors had to be braaid in this new shovel. It was firmly believed that if this was not done then the road project would not be a success in the long term. Like many good things this tradition disappeared, BUT Tosas have brought it back and it is now beginning to find it’s place as per many years ago!!
